A Quickie in Aussie
25.02.2024
29 °C
No need to explain where we are – this picture says it all…
We are taking a bit of a breather in Sydney this weekend and getting to grips with the lingo – it’s all barbies in cossies here at the moment because it’s still summer with the thermometer hitting close to 40C on our arrival. Fortunately, an overnight thunderstorm took the heat out of the air and today is a more comfortable 29C.
Taylor Swift is performing in Sydney this weekend and our flight from New Zealand was packed with young Swifties taking selfies, (more Aussie lingo). Here are a couple of Swifties from Perth who waited 6 months to get to see their idol…
We skipped Taylor’s show but enjoyed an excellent performance of Verdi’s opera, La Traviata, at Sydney Opera House instead. No photos as usual, but we got a sneakie of the curtain call…
It seams that the Aussies have a word for everything. For example: these exotic Australian white ibis are known derogatively as bin-chickens…
When the swamps near the city were drained for farming, thousands of these elegant birds were displaced and ended up bin-diving for a living alongside the rest of the city’s homeless. This one was posing for a selfie next to a tiki...
Sydney is also known for its coffee culture. There’s no point just asking this guy for a coffee…
If you do, you will get a lecture on the origin of the beans, the temperature and length of roasting, and the various ‘notes’ you can expect. You will also get it served in an ergonomically designed mug especially shaped to enhance the whole experience. However, coffee is not the only bespoke product on offer here in Australia. This store specializes in creating birthday gateaux for dogs…
We don't have a birthday dog to pamper, so we joined thousands of protesting Palestinian flag carriers in Hyde Park on Sunday afternoon instead…
We just hope that our presence had some effect.

The Hot Rod week end was great fun and very Aussie. Have learnt some of lingo too.!
How long did I take to get a black coffee ?
Back to real world with a bump
