On the Beach in Crete

sunny 30 °C

We are staying in the small fishing village of Plakias on the south coast of Crete. As we look out over the calm blue sea we are aware of how close we are to North Africa...

Only after we arrived at our apartment, which was actually selected by Sheila's brother, did we discover that we were staying on a nudist beach. We were surprised at this until Sheila's brother and wife turned up without bathing costumes. We had a great time and would love to show you photos but think it better not to. So here's a view of the bay...

Plakias is a quiet little harbour whose major attraction seems to be the nudist beach and we loved our time here. From Plakias we took trips into the surrounding mountains - especially to the Samaria Gorge..

Many people hike the length of the Gorge but we drove and simply took in the views from the ancient fortress at the south end ...
